Founded in 2010 and the winner of the 2015 CFDA/ Vogue Fashion Fund, Jonathan Simkhai, the New York-based label is known for creating masculine silhouettes with feminine details. The Fall Winter 2020 collection, presented during New York Fashion Week on Monday, continued the modern aesthetics but with a exotic cultural twist.
Inspired by the works of photographer Julius Shulman, the designer deconstructed and reconstructed some of the staple garments in everyone’s wardrobe, such as trench coats, to create geometric, clean silhouettes combined with a variety of interesting elements including vegan leather pleating, color blocking contrasts and animal print faux fur. The results of this reconstruction are the confident, powerful and sophisticated daily looks that showcase characteristics of modern women.

On the more feminine side, the designer employs fringes, paisley jacquard, woven knits and animal prints – elements that are tributes to his Iranian family background and heritage. The cultural elements are eye-catching, but not too exaggerate, exotic but still modern, just the right amount for a more versatile look for any contemporary ladies.

The colors of this season also own a link to the silk road. Paprika, cardamon, cumin are not just some of the spices the designer grew up with, but also shades that soften the sharpness of the looks, brighten up the outfits for elegant and graceful impressions.
